penn, a gifted poet and writer. Well known for her metaphorical and lyrical style. She is a fan
in the use of brevity in the styles of the Eintou, an original African-American syllabic poetic form along side the traditional
Japanese Haiku. The Eintou was introduced to her by Akintiunde Kofi Camara, while she was a member of the DeGriot Writers
group.
Born and raised in Sewickley, Pennsylvania now resides in Pittsburgh's
historic neighborhood of Manchester. Along side her traditional full-time career, she will soon complete her undergraduate
work at Carlow University (Creative Writing/Professional Writing) in 2011. She is also the Managing Editor of the Soul
Pitt Quarterly Magazine; where she connects the public with interesting interviews from personalities such as Lamman Rucker, Shanice
Wilson, Jewell Parker Rhodes, Montae Russell, Will Feagins, Q, Jonathan Winbush, Roy Ayers, Tavis Smiley, ReShonda Tate
Billingsley and others.
As part of the Soul Pitt Media family she has organized
and host of three successful Meet the Authors events. An event where the reading public is invited to meet and greet their
favorite authors, publishers, and editors in an evening of readings, networking and good eats.
Bonita received
The Critical Point 2011 Creative Writing Award for her poem ‘Rejected by a Literary Journal.’ Her poetry has been
published in several anthologies including; Crossing Limits: African Americans and Jewish American Poetry, The
Critical Point (2011, 2009), The Taj Mahaj Review and soon to be released Madwomen in the Attic Anthology.
Her latest release is The B Side.
She is looking forward to Graduate
studies in a Master of Fine Arts program to further embrace and develop her writing style. Bonita’s mission is to share
her love of the written word with others as a teacher and workshop facilitator.
